The “CIE Night” is a long standing tradition of the CIE/USA-DFW Chapter. This year, about 270 CIE members, families and friends gathered at the Hong Kong Royal Restaurant in Carrollton on Saturday, Jan 29, 2011 to celebrate the organization’s achievements in 2010 and to kick-off the Year of Rabbit with a feast of culture and jubilance.
Ms. Grace Tyler briefly reviewed the 18 successful programs benefiting over 3800 participants organized in the past year. Dr. David Kao introduced the slogan “CIE Grows Along With You” to encourage more participation in the form of membership, sponsorship, volunteerism and collaboration in his remark. The contribution of the outgoing 2010 board of directors and officers were honored with appreciation plaques. The incoming 2011 board of directors and officers were then welcomed. Together the team sang the song “Gong Xi Gong Xi” to show their readiness to work together to kick-off the year.
The participants enjoyed the scrumptious Chinese dinner along with five exciting performances of mixed western and eastern cultures by the performers ranging from 6 to 60 years old recruited from the CIE member’s family and friends. The shows included: lion dance by five adorable children coached by Master Paul Wong; Passacaglia by Handel-Halvorsen performed by Lily Liu (violin) and Brian Zhao (cello); two traditional musicals with a Chinese wind instrument Hulusi performed by Sunny Yu; Grenade by Bruno Mars performed by Alice Zhao (guitar) and Amy Zhang; five Chinese musicals by Prof. Wei Li (Yangqin) and Dr. Shaoping Zhang (Erhu). It is worth mentioning that Prof. Li has taught and performed Yangqin and Erhu for many years in Sichuan Musical College in China, and Dr. Zhang has been practicing pediatrician for more than ten years in his office in Plano.
The CIE Night was successfully organized under leadership of Dr. Yu Meng, and the result of hard work by more than thirty volunteers. The stage moderators of the event were Mr. Anthony A. Kung and Ms. Fiona W. Chen. The strong supports from the board of directors, and partner organizations and companies in the form of cash and items donation for both lucky money and gifts for lucky drawings were also greatly appreciated.
