2011 CIE English Essay Writing Contest

The 2011 CIE English Essay Writing Contest is now open. The objective of the contest is to promote creative writing skills for the youths. The contest is open to all students in Grade 1-12 (the grade level enrolled in the Spring 2011 Semester). The deadline of the submission is 11:59 AM CST June 12, 2011 (Sunday).

The essay must be submitted by email to cieessay2011@gmail.com. Please email your essay as an
attachment. Limit one email entry per contestant. On the email subject line, please state “CIE Essay Contest”, student’s Division and student’s name.

Here are the essay format requirements:
– MS word file, Word 97, 2003 or 2007 format
– Font: Times New Roman, Font size: 12 point, double-spaced
– Page one of the Word document should include only personal information:
* Contestant Name
* Grade, School Name
* Email address, phone number
* Home Address
– Essay text to start on page 2, with the essay title in a separate line, followed by the essay text.

The winners will be notified via email by June 20, 2011. The award presentation will be held on June 25, 2011.
Trophies will be awarded to all winners. Names and award photographs of the winners will be published in the CIE convention proceedings and local newspapers.

Topics of Essay Writing Contest:

Division I (Elementary grades 1-2)
Topic: I Wonder Why
Think of something you have wondered about and write about it.
Maximum of one page for the essay.

Division II (Elementary grades 3-5)
Topic: An Adventure I’d Like To Have
If you could have any type of adventure at all, what would it be? Think of the wildest adventure you can imagine.
Maximum of one page for the essay.

Division III (Middle School grades 6-8)
Topic: Something I Learned From A Bad Experience
Think about something bad that happened to you, but taught you something. Write about this experience and what you learned from it. Do you think that this knowledge will help you later in life?
Maximum of two pages for the essay.

Division IV (High School grades 9-12)
Topic: How I Would Improve The World
What you would do to improve the world? Think of actions you could take to help make the world a better place. June 23 is United Nations Public Service Day.
Maximum of four pages for the essay.
