The Dallas-Fort-Worth Chapter of the Chinese Institute of Engineers (CIE/USA-DFW), in partnership with the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce (GDAACC), has successfully organized the Minority Business Forum on Friday, November 11, 2011, at the Maribelle Davis Library in Plano between 1 – 4:30 pm. The purpose of the forum was to bridge the minority owned business suppliers with the major corporate and government buyers, who are in need of diversified procurement of engineering services and technology products.

The joint effort attracted 14 procurement experts from 10 large buyers, and about 60 suppliers. The buyers included Lockheed Martin, American Airlines, City of Dallas, Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD), Dallas Independent School District, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), DFW Airport, North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) and North Central Texas Regional Certification Agency (NCTRCA) and City of Plano.

During the event, the buyer representatives were first invited to give a short presentation about each of their procurement process, and goods and services needed. The presentations were then followed by a panel discussion in which all buyers answered the questions raised by the suppliers. The suppliers were also given the opportunity to briefly introduce themselves. The buyers also set up their booths at the event location to better facilitate the networking opportunity with the suppliers.

The supplier business owners took this opportunity to understand the dos and don’ts when conducting business with corporations and governments. They were also encouraged to delve into the government requirements and becoming certified minority suppliers to promote their own businesses. The forum was proven to be an excellent opportunity to match the needs between the suppliers and the buyers. Both buyers and minority suppliers enthusiastically appreciated the opportunity to connect and know each other better, and expressed great eagerness to have this event continued in the upcoming years.

The coordinator of the event was Dr. Yu Meng, and more than 20 enthusiastic volunteers supported the event organization. CIE/USA-DFW would like to acknowledge the partnership with GDAACC and the sponsorship by Lockheed Martin.
