The “CIE Night” is a long standing tradition of the Chinese Institute of Engineers/USA Dallas-Fort Worth Are Chapter (CIE/USA-DFW). More than 140 CIE members, families and friends gathered at the Tokyo Sushi & Asian Cuisine Restaurant at McKinney, TX on Saturday, January 26, 2013 to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The organization also reviewed CIE’s achievements in the past year, refreshed CIE’s commitment to CIE mission, and kicked-off the Year of Snake with a feast of culture and jubilance.

Mr. Sammy Yang, Chairman of the Board, opened the party. He recalled the 96 year proud history of the organization, and re-stated CIE’s mission to serve members in the engineering and scientific community, promote STEM programs and facilitate information exchanges.  In 2012, the 18 high quality programs organized by the DFW Chapter benefited more than 3500 participating professionals and students. More than 300 volunteers involved in organizing the events. He pointed out that the high quantity and high quality of the volunteers, the solid support of the sponsors, the proud heritage and the established teamwork are the key of success.
2012 chairman of the board, Dr. David Kao, board of directors, officer team, and 20 distinguished contributors were recognized for their outstanding contributions in 2012.

2013 Board of Directors and 2013 Executive Team were introduced to CIE members. The 2013 Board of Directors include:  Sammy  Yang (Chairman), Dr. Yu Meng, Dr. Chinpei Tang, Meimei DiGennaro, Mark Carpenter, Dr. Yung-Chung Kao, Sam Zhu, Dr. David Kao, Dr. Claire Jung, Dr. Carter Tiernan, Sue Kwan, and Charles Chow.  The 2013 executive team includes: Chairman, Sammy Yang; President, Dr. Yu Meng; Executive VP, Dr. Chinpei Tang; VP of Treasurer, Lingling Chou, CPA; VP of Secretary, Michael Wang; VP of Public Relations, Jiayi Liu, VP of Youth Program, Dr. Xinfen Chen; Convention Chair, Hailong Jin and VP of Young Professional, Tengran Liu.
In the president remarks, newly elected president, Dr. Meng, answered two questions challenged by the moderators – what and how the new team will make CIE better? Dr. Meng highlighted the family-oriented STEM programs designed to cater participants of all ages from youth to professionals with an emphasis in science, engineering and leadership. He particularly introduced the technical symposium at the five star landmark building – Hyatt Regency Reunion Hotel on March 2. He invited all to join the national level symposium affiliated with the gala party AAEOY (Asian American Engineers of the Year) hosted by the CIE/USA-DFW. He also introduced the Regional Science Bowl – a high school science competition hosted by CIE/USA-DFW and part of the National Science Bowl sponsored by Department of Energy. Dr. Meng used his puzzle-style humor to answer the question of how. He interpreted C, I, E in a variety of ways.  He described CIE in multiple facets by interpreting it as “Chinese Institute of Engineers”, “Community Involvement Entity”, and “Customer, Investor and Employees”. He elaborated his own involvement in CIE and summarized his experience as “Come, Involve and Engage”.  He encouraged participation in the form of membership, sponsorship, volunteerism and collaboration. He concluded his inspiring speech with a call for “taking ownership of CIE”.

All the participants enjoyed the scrumptious Chinese dinner along with exciting performances.  Students from UT Dallas first brought amusing songs “Gong Xi Fa Cai”, ”Half Noon Gulf” and “When I look back”.  The dance of “Gangnam Style”, performed by Ms. Yukun Liu, Mr. Bozhao Ma and their high school buddies, culminated the party. The Red Envelope and dozens of raffles pleased many participating kids and adults.
